Northerly winds

Increasingly cold next week as north or northeasterly winds affect Britain and Ireland. This will bring overnight frosts, plus chilly days. Some showers will occur, falling increasingly as snow. Many central inland areas will be often dry and bright with more sunshine than recently.

Tuesday 6/12/22
Chilly northeasterly winds affect the country. Dry and bright for many central, southern and western regions of Britain, also Northern Ireland. Showers for eastern coastal districts of England and Scotland, falling as snow over higher ground, perhaps sleet even to lower elevations. More substantial snow possible around the Cairngorms. A few showers may graze southern coastlines too. Highs 3 to 7C.

Wednesday 7/12/22
A cold northerly wind. A frosty start then a bright day with plenty of sunshine about though snow showers could become heavy and frequent across northern Scotland. Some showers down eastern coasts of England will also fall as sleet or snow to low elevations. A few wintry showers for Northern Ireland too. Colder than previouis days, highs only at 2 to 5C.

Thursday 8/12/22
After a widespread hard frost it will be another cold day. Less windy than previous days. Areas of rain, sleet and snow showers, most common near to coasts and particularly northern Scotland where snow is likely to fall to low elevations. Mainly dry and bright in central and southern England. Highs struggling above 1 to 4C.

Friday 9/12/22
Another hard frost for many to start the day. Mostly dry though again feeling cold. Some scattered showers about, these likely to fall wintry, though many will remain dry. Highs struggling again at 1 to 4C.

Saturday 10/12/22
Lower confidence in the detail, but most likely still a cold pattern with areas of wintry showers, these focused near to coasts, but some pushing inland. Icy conditions and a hard frost. Highs 1 to 5C.

Sunday 11/12/22
Likely to stay cold with wintry showers in the forecast. Frost and ice, perhaps some freezing fog patches. Light winds for most places. Highs 1 to 5C.
