A changeable week with wind and rain, then colder weather in the north reaching all

A changeable spell of weather taking us through the Christmas weekend. There will be cloud and rain at times, strong winds too. Colder air is just north of Scotland, being held at bay for most by milder air to the south. However, this cold air makes it into Scotland later this week, then pushes slowly south to be through all areas Boxing day.

Christmas Eve 24/12/22
Low pressure west of Ireland on Christmas Eve. This brings heavy showers to western Wales and southern England. Rain too in much of Ireland and Scotland, snow over the hills of Scotland, some of it heavy in central areas. Probably drier in eastern England. Highs at 6 to 12C.
 

Christmas Day 25/12/22
Low pressure drifts off to the north of Scotland on Christmas Day. Rain will gradually ease back across Scotland but with a colder air starting to move in expect snow to fall over the higher ground here. Some wintry showers in northwest England and over the hills of Wales. Elsewhere a bright and breezy day. Highs at 6 to 11C.

Boxing Day 26/12/22
Heavy rain, some snow over the higher ground, moves across south and southeast England overnight and continues to clear eastern parts of England at the start of Boxing Day. A colder feeling day with some snow in Shetland, Orkney and the north and west of Scotland. A few snow showers around windward coasts of Ireland. Mostly dry and bright for England and Wales and the rest of Scotland with plenty of sunshine. Highs at 3 to 7C.

Tuesday 27/12/22
Ridge of high pressure building in the west as low pressure clears east. Starting cold with some frost. Rain, preceded by snow, moves in to western Scotland, NW England and Northern Ireland as the day progresses tracking east. Tending to stay dry across the rest of England and Wales. Highs at 3 to 8C.

Wednesday 28/12/22
Broad southwest flow covering the British Isles as low pressure brings fronts through Scotland and Ireland. Rain and cloud for many in the north and west. Cloudy and drizzly to the south. Mist around coasts and hills. A milder day though feeling chilly in the wind. Highs at 8 to 11C.

Thursday 29/12/22
A drier day generally though still some showers pushing on to western coasts and hills, rain for the far NW of Scotland and movng in across south and west Ireland. Highs at 6 to 12C.
