Changeable with a brief cooler stint early in new year

Unsettled with rain and gales on some days, especially in the run up to New Year. Chillier air moves south early in the new year for a brief time before milder air moves back in.

Low pressure brings a rather cloudy start to 2023 for many, although mild in many areas of England, Wales and Ireland. Drier and brighter in northern Scotland and staying cold here. Some snow through central and southern Scotland. Highs at 3C in northern Scotland, 8C for northern England, 12C in southern England.
 

Holiday Monday 2/1/23
A colder day for Monday with a frosty start for some. After a cloudy and damp start to some across England and Wales it will become largely dry with better sunny spells as a ridge builds in across the country. Highs at 5 to 8C, colder across parts of Scotland.

Tuesday 3/1/23
A frost first thing to central and eastern areas on Tuesday. A dry and bright start before cloud and rain push in from the west, snow at first in the north, with strengthening winds and milder temperatures. Highs rise to 6 to 11C.

Wednesday 4/1/23
A wetter, windier and milder day on Wednesday with heavy and frequent showers in the west, some longer spells of rain too. Drier further east. Highs at 12C in southern England, 9 to 11C across Scotland.

Thursday 5/1/23
A drier day and less windy on Thursday. Cooler through Scotland where it will be cloudier with a higher risk of rain moving in to northern and western areas. Some showers on to western coasts and hills further south, otherwise dry with sunny spells. Highs at 8 to 12C.

Friday 6/1/23
A cooler start to Friday with a frost for some in the north. A dry and fine day mostly before cloud builds from the west with rain eventually moving in to far western areas later. Highs at 5 to 11C.
