After Saturday's band of wintry precipitation clears away to the north, an east-west split develops in the weather with cloud and drizzle for western areas, brighter skies and dry in the east

Good morning,

Sunday starts wet and windy in the north as Saturday's band of wintry precipitation lingers over Scotland and northern England. To the south it will be dry and bright with the exception of western coasts where an onshore breeze will bring some light rain and drizzle. It will be a cold start everywhere as overnight lows drop to 0 to 5C.

The rain will ease over the north of the country by lunchtime with the exception of the Northern Isles which will experience some heavy bursts of rain through the afternoon. Light rain and drizzle will persist too for western areas but some good sunny spells may develop in the east. It will feel less cold than Saturday with highs of 3 to 8C.

Not much change into Sunday evening with clearer skies in the east and drizzle persisting in the west.
