Morning Call - December 03, 2018
Cold and dry in the north
Mild and wet in the south

Issued: 0530hrs Monday 3rd December 2018
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

There will be a real north-south split in the weather today with cold and dry conditions prevailing in the north and wet and mild weather prevailing in the south

Good morning,

Low pressure moves off the northeast coast of Scotland overnight leaving clear skies and cold temperatures in its wake. Over much of Scotland this morning ice is likely to have formed on untreated roads where temperatures dropped below freezing overnight.

It will be a cold and cloudy start to the day for much of the northern half of the country as northerly winds bring Arctic air to the British Isles. Through the morning any cloud will retreat leaving a largely fine and dry day for Scotland, Northern Ireland and the north of England. In the south, where a westerly airflow is present, it will feel milder. Cloud and rain will move in from the west across the southern half of the country throughout the day bringing rain first to Wales in the morning then spreading across southern England through the afternoon.

It will remain cold for much of mainland Scotland through the day with temperature highs only reaching 3 to 6C. For the north of England, Ireland, and north Wales highs will reach 6 to 8C while in southern parts of England and Wales highs will reach 9 to 13C.

Have a great day!

Claire
