Cloudy and wet start
Brighter in the afternoon

Issued: 0530hrs Sunday 2nd December 2018

It will be a cold day in the north of the country, milder in the south

Good morning,

It will be a cloudy and wet start to the day for most of the country as a low pressure system swirls out to the west of Scotland. The far northeast will start the day dry though rain will move in during the morning. The rain will become confined to Scotland and the western coasts of Ireland and Wales and southwestern England through the afternoon before another heavier band of rain moves across Ireland and into northern England by the early evening.

Winds will be light across the northern half of the British Isles but stronger across the southern half of the country where they could reach near gale force for a time during the afternoon and into the evening around Irish Sea coasts.

Sunday will start cold for mainland Scotland with overnight lows of 0 to 3C; 5 to 7C is more typical for Northern Ireland and northern England; while elsewhere temperatures will only dip as low as 9 to 13C. There won't be much increase in the temperature throughout the day, most places only climbing by a degree or two. Highs of 4 to 9C for mainland Scotland; 10 to 11C for the northern half of Ireland and northern England; and 12 to 15C for the southern half of Ireland, Wales and southern England.

Have a great day!

Claire
