Unsettled and warm next week with heavy rain and risk of thunderstorms

The atmosphere becomes more unstable from Sunday with heavy showers as well as longer spells of rain to be expected as we head into and through next week. Winds will strengthen at times too but from a more southerly drection seeing temperatures rise across the country, particularly across the south and southeast.

Tuesday 17/5/22
A rather muggy feeling day on Tuesday with rather a lot of cloud about, though some bright and sunny spells are expected, these best further west. Many places look to be largely dry, however, outbreaks of rain will push in and affect western areas including much of Ireland through the day. There is much uncertainty on the extract advancement of the rain east at this stage. Another warm day for many with highs at 16 to 25C.


Wednesday 18/5/22
Overnight, heavy rain will clear from the west seeing a largely dry but cloudy morning on Wednesday. Rain soon looks to push in from the west again. How far east the rain advances is again still uncertain at this stage. Staying cloudy in the afternoon for many. The risk of some heavy showers pushing across southeastern areas of England later in the evening and overnight. Highs at 16 to 21C for most, though in the southeast of England highs up to a warm 24 or 25C.

Thursday 19/5/22
High pressure builds in from the south on Thursday allowing most places to be dry with some better sunny spells developing. On a southwesterly wind there is the risk of a few scattered showers affecting western regions of Ireland as well as west Scotland through the day. Highs at 16 to 23C.

Friday 20/5/22
We gradually pull back into a more westerly flow on Friday with showers affecting western areas but many places centrally and in the east look to stay dry with sunshine, however, the southeast of England could see some heavy rain and thunder. Feeling pleasant but not as warm as previous days with highs at 15 to 20C.

Saturday 21/5/22
Winds turn around to a cooler north-westerly on Saturday. Showers look to affect northern and coastal areas of the country while centrally it should stay mostly dry with bright and or sunny spells. Pressure builds through the day allowing for many showers to fizzle out. Highs at 12 to 19C.

Sunday 22/5/22
Higher pressure builds in across the country on Sunday allowing for a mostly dry day with sunny spells. HIghs at 15 to 20C.
