Week ahead - May 25, 2022
Pressure gradually builds
Cooler northerly later

Issued: 0900 Wednesday 25th May 2022
Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

Windy at first then pressure builds into the weekend. A cooler start next week with possible showers in the east.

A breezy rest of the week, windy in the north, before high pressure builds in at the end of the week seeing a more settled and largely dry period of time as we head into the weekend. As high pressure moves northwards a north to north-easterly wind flow sets up which brings cooler conditions and more moisture laden air to eastern areas.

Saturday 28/5/22
High pressure is going to be just to the north of Ireland on Saturday. Dry weather for most of the country with some sunny spells. Isolated showers could affect northern Scotland. Highs at 14 to 18C.

Sunday 29/5/22
A risk of the showers becoming more widespread on Sunday, mostly across Scotland, northern and eastern England. Tending to be brighter in the west and south with sunny spells. Highs at a cooler 11C in the east though up to 17C further west and in southern Ireland.

Monday 30/5/22
Some showery rain is expected to affect north and east Scotland including northern England and down eastern English counties on Monday as lower pressure pushes over Denmark. A cool brisk northerly wind will also affect these areas. High pressure to the northwest continues to bring fair conditions across Ireland, Northern Ireland and western areas of the UK. Temperatures at a rather cool 11 to 16C.

Tuesday 31/5/22
Higher pressure remains to the northwest of Ireland still on Tuesday. This should continue to keep Ireland, Northern Ireland and western areas of the UK dry with the best of any sunny spells. Eastern areas, however, will see more cloud with the risk of some showery rain. Highs at 14 to 18C.

Wednesday 01/6/22
High pressure pulls away more towards Greenland by midweek, though much of the British Isles currently looks to stay largely dry. A slack pressure gradient will keep things reaosnably consistent throughout the day with variable cloud and occasional sunny spells. Highs at 14 to 19C.

Thursday 02/6/22
Most places look to remain dry on Thursday, though some showery rain push up from the south of the UK and affect southern English counties, perhaps into southern parts of Ireland too. Highs at a warmer 15 to 21C.
