Week ahead - May 26, 2022
Showers from Sunday
Cooler for a time

Issued: 0900 Thursday 26th May 2022
Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

Higher pressure this weekend then a mixed week next week. Cool to start before temperatures recover later.

A largely dry Saturday though Sunday could see showers in the east and feel cooler. There is uncertainty in the weather set up through next week. We stick with a north to north-easterly wind flow for the start of the week keeping temperatures relatively cool with the risk of showers as lower pressure moves in. Perhaps showers may continue later.

Sunday 29/5/22
A risk of the showers becoming more widespread on Sunday, mostly across Scotland, northern and eastern England. Tending to be drier and brighter in the west and south with the best of the sunny spells here. Highs at a cooler 11C in the east though up to 17C further west and in southern Ireland.

Monday 30/5/22
Some showery rain is expected to affect north and east Scotland including northern England and down eastern English counties on Monday as lower pressure pushes over the North Sea. A cool brisk north to north-easterly wind will also affect these areas keeping temperatures below average. High pressure to the northwest continues to bring fair conditions across Ireland, Northern Ireland and generally western areas of the UK. Temperatures at a rather cool 11 to 16C.

Tuesday 31/5/22
Much uncertainty in the weather set up for Tuesday, though higher pressure does look to remain to the northwest of Britain still. This should continue to keep much of Ireland dry as well as many western areas of the UK, though some showery rain could affect parts of Scotland into northern and eastern England. Highs at 13 to 18C.

Wednesday 01/6/22
Two scenarios for Wednesday, one being higher pressure moves back in allowing for most places to be dry and fine, though with the risk of some rain in the morning across northern into eastern England. Alternative is that we see showery rain become widespread across more of the country from the southwest, although with Northern Ireland and much of Scotland staying largely dry with the best of the sunshine. Highs at 14 to 19C.

Thursday 02/6/22
Thursday is somewhat more consistent between models that the weather will be more broken with sunny spells but also showers, some merging into longer spells of rain. High at 15 to 21C.

Friday 03/6/22
Perhaps higher pressure wants to build in again to see most places become or stay dry with good sunshine for many. Highs at a warm 16 to 22C.
