Fine next weekend

Issued: 0900hrs Sunday 1st May 2022
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Pleasantly warm in the spring sun

Mixed weather during the week ahead as a westerly airflow affects the country. This will bring some rain or showers, but mostly small amounts and there will a good deal of dry weather too. Settling down into next weekend as pressure builds.

Wednesday 4/5/22
Sunny spells and a scattering of showers forming most widely into the afternoon. A few local showers in western areas in the morning, perhaps dregs of rain in east Anglia as remnants of a front clears here. Shower clouds bubbling up during the middle of the day, some local heavy bursts forming across central and eastern counties during the afternoon, fading out toward the evening. Light westerly breezes, strongest in northern Scotland. Highs 13 to 19C.

Thursday 5/5/22
A west to southwesterly breeze affects the country. Broken cloud, sunshine and a scattering of showers, mostly in western areas in the morning, then forming more widely in central and eastern areas by the afternoon, but these locally hit and miss. Fronts drifting into western Scotland bring a risk of some steadier rain here. Drizzly at times for Northern Ireland too. Drier for eastern Scotland. Feeling pleasantly warm in any sunshine toward the east. Highs 13 to 20C.

Friday 6/5/22
Light westerly breezes continue, whilst high pressure begins to build toward the southwest. Patchy rain and cloud across northern areas from overnight into the morning. Then showers forming during the daytime, focused toward the east and southeast into the afternoon and early evening. Sunshine coming through best in western areas later. Highs 13 to 19C, warmest in the south and east.

Saturday 7/5/22
High pressure builds over the country leading to settled weather into the weekend for most places. Risk of a few showers in southernmost counties, otherwise dry with good spells of sunshine. Some fair-weather cloud building through the daytime. Light winds overall, but a keen easterly breeze may affect the south coast. Highs 13 to 19C.

Sunday 8/5/22
A fine day overall with high pressure centred over Britain. A good amount of sun and a little cloud filling in at times through the day. Light winds for most. An easterly breeze in the south. Starting cool, but soon warming up. Highs 13 to 19C.

Monday 9/5/22
High pressure slips toward the east, maintaining fair weather and a good amount of warm sunshine. Light south to southeasterly breezes. Highs 14 to 20C.
