Drier & warmer weekend
Heavy showers to start

Issued: 0900 Sunday 29th May 2022
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Heavy showers and cool then drier and warmer by the end of the week and through the weekend

Heavy showers to start this week, a risk of some thunderstorms and more prolonged showers in places too. Later in the week the showers will tend to fade with sunny spells developing more widely. The weekend is set to be dry and warmer, perfect for Jubilee celebrations, before rain arrives in the west next week.

Wednesday 1/6/22
A slack area of low pressure drifts to the east on Wednesday. The more northerly flow that then affects the British Isles brings some heavy showers into southern Scotland, northern and eastern parts of England and these could be thundery at times as they slip through the Midlands and southern England. However, the nature of the showers is very hit and miss and so some places will be dry. Sunny spells to the west, again though with a risk of a shower in eastern Ireland and Wales. Brighter skies in northern and eastern Scotland although a shower risk here too. Highs at 14 to 18C

Holiday Thursday 2/6/22
The pressure flow remains slack on Thursday and this leads to the development of some showers, mostly in Scotland and perhaps Northern Ireland and northern England. Most of the showers in Scotland where they will be heavy. Tending to be drier further south with some sunny spells. Highs at 12C in central Scotland, 20C in southern England.

Holiday Friday 3/6/22
A slack pressure flow again through Friday. This is going to be bringing some sunny spells, the best in the west. A few showers in Scotland and northern England but dry elsewhere. Highs at 15C in northern Scotland, 23C in southern England.

Saturday 4/6/22
High pressure is expected to be building to the west of Scotland on Saturday. This brings a mostly dry day. There may be some cloud in the east at first, and the risk of a shower in Scotland in the afternoon. Most places will be dry though with the best of the sunshine to the west. Highs at 15C in northern Scotland, 22C in southern England.

Sunday 5/6/22
Pressure remains high for most on Sunday. There will be some sunny spells, a risk of cloud though along eastern coasts. The afternoon could see an isolated shower developing. Thicker cloud in western Ireland, a risk of some rain here. Highs at 16 to 23C.

Monday 6/6/22
Rain for Ireland on Monday, this slipping into the west of Scotland, Wales and England. More central and eastern areas will have a dry day, sunny spells at first but with cloud increasing. Highs at 17 to 23C.
