Gradually improving
Staying cool

Issued: 0900 Friday 18th October 2019
Duty forecaster: Dr. Simon Keeling

A gradual improvement to less wet weather but remaining cool

The cool and unsettled weather is starting to show signs of easing through the coming week. There will be more rain and showers this weekend, but by Sunday we should notice that for many the showers have become less frequent. It will, however, turn colder. By early next week dry weather may affect many areas. The forecast for the end of the week is very uncertain.

Monday 21/10/19
A ridge of high pressure builds over Ireland and the UK on Monday. This should bring a more settled day to most areas. Some bright or sunny spells, the best in the west. Lower pressure over southeast England brings the risk of some rain here, although uncertainty as to how much there might be. Temperatures at 9 to 11C.

Tuesday 22/10/19
Pressure remains high over most of the UK and Ireland. Morning mist and fog patches clear to leave broken cloud and sunny spells once again. Fronts may bring rain to the far north and west of Scotland as well as western Ireland. Breezy here too. Highs at 8 to 12C.

Wednesday 23/10/19
High pressure to the south brings dry weather for some but also some mist and fog patches which could be slow to clear in the morning. Fronts in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland give outbreaks of rain, these heaviest in western Scotland. Highs at 9 to 16C.

Thursday 24/10/19
Much uncertainty in the forecast from Thursday onwards. It may be that cooler weather and showers affect Scotland perhaps with more persistent rain in the north. To the south pressure may be higher leading to drier conditions with some sunny spells. Highs at 14C in southern areas, 9C in northern Scotland.

Friday 25/10/19
Again confidence in the forecast is low for Friday. At the presrnt time we suspect cloud and outbreaks of rain will be affecting Ireland, Wales and much of southern England. Scotland shuld be drier and cooler together with northeast England. Tops near 8C in norterhn Scotland, 15C in southern England.

Saturday 26/10/19
Low confidence in the firecast again for Saturday. Rain ay affect Ireland, Wales and much of England with milder air to the south. Cooler in Scotland and drier here. Highs at 7C in northern Scotland, 15C in southern England.
