Early severe gales and rain then improving as higher pressure builds

Very windy weather during the first part of the forecast period. Low pressure areas passing through the UK and Ireland bringing severe gales and the risk of some heavy rain. There are signs that higher pressure will be building next week bringing more settled weather with some sunny spells.

Friday 21/9/18
Chilly overnight into Friday as a cold front clears east taking rain with it. This leads to a brighter and fresher day. The brisk west to northwest wind will be bringing showers to many western and northern areas of the UK and Ireland. Drier and brighter to the east and south with sunny spells throughout the day. Highs at 10 to 17C.


Saturday 22/9/18
A weak ridge of high pressure at first on Saturday morning allowing for a chilly start. There will be sunshine to the north and west and apart from scattered showers in northern Scotland the day starts dry. Low pressure west of Ireland brings heavy rain and gales to much of Ireland, England and Wales, heavy in the west. Drier for the afternoon in Scotland with further sunny spells. Highs at 12 to 17C.


Sunday 23/9/18
Low pressure crosses the UK and Ireland on Sunday. This brings rain and the risk of gales. The rain could be heavy for a while before clearing to showers. Turning cooler as the showers arrive. Highs at 10 to 16C.

 
 
 


Monday 24/9/18
Higher pressure builds on Monday. Showers clear from the east and then the day should be dry with sunny spells throughout. Highs at 12 to 15C.


Tuesday 25/9/18
High pressure persists in the southern half of the UK and Ireland on Tuesday bringing another fair day for most with sunny spells. The northern half will become cloudier as low pressure edges north of Scotland. Rain affecting many western and northern parts of Scotland and Ireland. Highs at 12 to 19C.

Wednesday 26/9/18
Little change on Wednesday as higher pressure brings dry weather with sunny spells to southern areas, cloudier skies and some patchy rain in the north. Highs at 12 to 19C.
