Wettest north-west; small amounts of rain south & east

A west to southwesterly weather pattern will prevail over the next week and probably beyond. Temperatures will vary - on the cool side for the north and west, but some warmth across the south.

Wednesday 12/09/18
A west to southwesterly pattern influences Britain and Ireland with fronts trailing in from the Atlantic. Low cloud, rain or drizzle for Wales and western areas of England, spreading south-eastwards through the day across the Midlands. Showery in western Scotland. However eastern Scotland and north-east England will be mainly dry. The far south-east of England should also stay substantially dry. Fresh in the north, warm in the south. Highs 16 to 23C, but cooler in rain.

Thursday 13/09/18
Pressure builds across southern Britain, but a prevailing southwesterly pattern continues for northern regions. Cloudy skies and patchy rain west & north-west. Wettest conditions likely to affect western Scotland. The remnants of a front may bring cloud and a little rain to southern England, but should break up to leave a largely dry and fairly warm day. Some sunshine breaking through for the Midlands and south. Breezy in the north, lighter winds south. Highs 14 to 21C.

Friday 14/09/18
High pressure stays to the south, maintaining generally fair conditions for south-east England, but further fronts will be coming in from the Atlantic on a westerly airflow. Mostly cloudy north and west, with some rain or showers. Risk of locally frequent rain for western hills. North-eastern Britain sees mostly small amounts of rain to the lee of high ground. A fresh westerly breeze. Highs 14 to 22C.

Saturday 15/09/18
Generally southwesterly winds continue. Rain most frequent to the north-west as pressure builds across the south. A little patchy rain possible almost anywhere, but many places may stay dry and fairly warm. Best chance for lengthy dry and sunny periods toward the east. Highs 14 to 21C.

Sunday 16/09/18
Low confidence. Southwesterly winds continue. A risk of wet and windy weather sweeping in from the Atlantic, but central and south-eastern Britain may escape dry and warm. Highs 14 to 23C.

Monday 17/09/18
Low confidence. Most likely changeable with rain or showers, but also some brighter areas which stay dry much of the day, best toward the east. Highs 14 to 20C.
