Cold to start
Milder mid-week

Sunday
Low pressure to the southwest brings outbreaks of sleet and snow to Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales and southwestern and southern parts of England through Sunday morning. A dry and bright start for eastern parts of England as well as much of Scotland though wintry showers will affect western areas. Snow spreads across the southern half of England, reaching into the Midlands, through the afternoon while wintry showers persist for western Scotland and spread into northwestern parts of Ireland and the southwest of the UK. Showers may merge to give longer spells of sleet and rain at times. Good spells of afternoon sunshine develop across Ireland, eastern Scotland and the north of England. Cold for all with highs at just 1 to 4C for most, perhaps 5 or 6C in the far southwest and far northeast.

Sunday Night
During Sunday night and into Monday morning a front sinks south over central and southern Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England and into the northern parts of Ireland bringing further sleet and snow here. Wintry showers feed into northern parts of Scotland and the southwest UK overnight as well. There will be variable amounts of cloud around overnight but plenty of clearer spells too allowing temperatures to drop widely to -5 to -2C. It will be colder than this in more rural spots while western parts of Ireland may just hold on to temperatures slightly above freezing.

Monday
Another cold day on Monday but with plenty of sunny spells and largely dry weather across the UK and Ireland. A weakening front brings increasingly scattered and light wintry showers to northern parts of England which sink south through the Midlands before fading completely. Elsewhere scattered wintry showers also continue to feed into northern parts of Scotland and Irish Sea coasts of England and Wales. Highs range from 1 to 6C for most.

Tuesday
A ridge of high pressure brings a dry start to the day with sunshine and a widespread frost across Great Britain. Increasing cloud brings rain, preceded by a period of sleet and snow eastwards eventually through all parts of Ireland and much of the UK. It could be that several hours of snowfall affect parts of Scotland and northern England. High temperatures at 1 to 6C for most, 8 to 10C possible in western Ireland and the West Country.
