Rain, sleet and snow
Milder west

Tuesday
Another cold start to the day for many of us with a widespread frost. However, cloud is increasing quite quickly from the west and there is already an area of rain together with some sleet across Ireland. This will be edging east woods this morning to bring rain into Southwest Scotland, Wales and Southwest England, which will be turning to snow mainly over high ground as it heads east. Brighter in the east at first but the cloud is getting thicker. This will lead to a cold and cloudy afternoon across many areas. Periods of rain, sleet and snow affecting much of western Scotland, northern England, the Midlands, Wales and southern England. Snow may become persistent across central and southern Scotland as well as over high ground of England. Highs at 3 to 5C, 10C in the far southwest and in western Ireland. Tuesday Night
More snow in central Scotland tonight. There will be an area of rain, sleet and snow through this evening affecting much of northern, central and southern England although this should slowly clear eastwards. Then plenty of low cloud, especially in western areas with the risk of fog affecting western coast and hills. An area of more persistent rain may move through central Ireland and into Wales. Remaining dry and cold in northern Scotland. Lows at 0C in central Scotland, 6C further south.

Wednesday
Low pressure remains in control through Wednesday. It is going to be a rather cloudy day across many areas with some outbreaks of rain and drizzle, most of this in the west. Low cloud and fog will also affect many coasts and hills. It remains cold across much of Scotland although for northern and eastern England temperatures recover to near average. Milder across Ireland, Wales and much of the south and south-west of England. Highs at 2C in northern Scotland, 6C in northern England, 12C in southwest England and Ireland.

Thursday
Low pressure stays to the west of Ireland on Thursday. France will bring some heavy rain across much of Ireland and western and southern parts of the UK overnight. This will be pushing northwards to be affecting much of Scotland and parts of northern England on Thursday morning with the risk of some snow on its leading edge across parts of Scotland and the high ground of northern England. Becoming drier, mother and breezier for match of Ireland, England and Wales. There will be low cloud and fog over western and southern coast and hills with some drizzle here too. Dry elsewhere. Staying wet in northern Scotland throughout the day with snow turning to rain. Highs at 9 to 11C for many, 5C in northern Scotland.
