Cold north
Milder south

Saturday
As low pressure crosses southern England it will bring strong winds and wet weather across much of Ireland and Wales as well as central, eastern and southern England on Saturday. The rain increasingly turning to sleet and snow as it meets colder air across central Ireland, Wales and the Midlands. Several centimetres of snow are likely over high ground and there may even be some at low levels in these areas. Colder and drier across the far north of England and Scotland although always a fair amount of cloud. High temperatures at 2 to 6C for most, 8 to 10C through the far south of Ireland and into the West Country.

Saturday Night
Saturday's area of precipitation clears to the south through the evening as a transient ridge of high pressure builds across the UK from the north. This leads to a mostly dry night for much of the UK though a few wintry showers affect far northeastern areas. A cloudier night for Ireland with low pressure lying just to the west. Outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow spread in from the west through the wee hours reaching most parts of Ireland through Sunday morning. Overnight lows widely at -5 to 0C, 3 or 4C in the far southwest of Ireland.

Sunday
A weak ridge of high pressure stays across the British Isles on Sunday giving a widespread frost and ice patches to start. This should bring a drier and colder day to all. There will be some bright or sunny spells especially at first. A few snow showers affecting northern and eastern Scotland as well as north east England. Outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow spread across Ireland and into the southwest of the UK. The winds will be increasing here too. A general increase of cloud across England, Wales and Northern Ireland throughout the day. Highs around 1 to 5C for many, but 10C in the Isles of Scilly and 8C in southwest Ireland.

Monday
A widespread frost on Monday morning. High pressure will be to the east with low pressure to the west of Ireland. Breezy across Ireland and rather cloudy with some outbreaks of patchy rain. Most of the UK should be dry with broken cloud and the best of any sunshine in the east. Rain moves into the far southwest later. A cold day with highs at 1 to 6C for most, though southwestern parts of the UK and Ireland could see highs of 8 to 10C.
