A messy synoptic situation brings outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow to the UK and Ireland on Saturday. These mainly focussed over western areas at first but spreading across central and southern England later. A breezy day too for many.

Good morning,

A mixed morning with showers, some wintry, affecting much of Ireland, Scotland and Northern Ireland as well as Wales and western parts of England. Drier to the east with plenty of spells of sunshine around.

Into the afternoon we'll see more persistent rain, sleet and snow affecting western and central parts of Scotland while another and of rain and sleet moves into the far southwest of Ireland. Later this spreads across Wales and southwest England, falling as snow over higher ground. With strong winds this could lead to temporary blizzard conditions over the Welsh Mountains. A drier afternoon for Northern Ireland, eastern Ireland, northern Scotland and much of England, away from the southwest. Highs reaching 3 to 7C for most, 9 or 10C is possible to the far southwest.

Rain spreads across central and southern parts of England through the evening while a mixture of rain, sleet and snow continues for central Scotland. Showers persist for western and central parts of Ireland too, some of which will be wintry.
