Widespread gales

Wet and windy, severe gales in western areas

Good morning,

A few dry hours across eastern England this morning, but severe gales and rain are already lashing Scotland, Wales and western England as well as much of Ireland. Gusts of wind in excess of 70mph are likely to be affecting western coasts and hills, with this wind and rain spreading east to all areas this morning. Inland gusts will be at 50 to 60mph.

This afternoon sees the heavy rain and wind transfergin eastwards, those winds strong enough to cause some minor damage to trees. It won;t be until the evening that it turns drier in some western areas. Despite being mild, it will be feeling cool in the wind. Tonight sees rain clearing the east of England. Heavy showers in western Scotland and western Ireland. Drier in more eastern areas overall.
