Issued: 0530hrs Saturday 21st December 2019
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

Outbreaks of heavy rain affect southern parts of the country while northern areas stay mostly dry with scattered showers to the west. The best of the sun to northeast.

Good morning,

There will be some heavy bursts of rain for southeastern England through this morning while scattered showers affect western areas. Staying dry elsewhere with variable amounts of cloud around. Through the morning rain and strong winds arrive from the southwest reaching southern Ireland and the far southwest of England and Wales.

Rain continues to affect the southern half of Ireland through the afternoon and spreads across Wales and England reaching the Midlands. Some very heavy bursts of rain affect southern coastal regions of England. Mostly dry for northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland though there may be the odd shower for western areas. The best of the sun to the northeast. High temperatures widely reaching 5 to 8C though parts of the south could reach 9 or 10C.

Rain continues for Wales and central and southern parts of England spreading into northern regions through the evening though tending to become increasingly showery further north. Rain eases across Ireland and it stays mostly dry for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Have a good day!

Claire
