Rain clears to showers

Issued: 0530hrs Monday 24th February 2020
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

Early snowfall affects northern parts of the island of Ireland, northern England and much of Scotland though this becomes confined to the northern half of Scotland later. Rain clears east from Ireland, Wales and England to leave a bright afternoon with showers for western areas. A windy day too with coastal gales for southern areas.

Good Morning,

Outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow affecting most parts of Ireland and the UK this morning as an area of low pressure tracks to the east. Snow possibly falling to lower levels across Northern Ireland, northern Ireland, northern England and across much of Scotland. Rain clears Ireland through the morning leaving a drier spell here. Showers move into western and northern coastal regions later. Windy with coastal gales affecting southern and southwestern areas.

Rain clears to the southeast of England through the afternoon while snow persists over northern parts of Scotland. Brightening for most other areas though showers follow for western and northwestern coasts and hills. These wintry over higher ground. Winds generally easing too but gales may develop over eastern coasts later.

Showers persist for northwestern-facing coasts and hills through the evening while snow starts to ease away to the northeast of Scotland. Winds easing too.

Have a good day!

Claire
