Issued: 0530hrs Monday 10th February 2020
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

A strong west to northwesterly flow brings widespread gales across the UK and Ireland on Monday. There will be frequent wintry showers for western coasts and hills while southern parts of Ireland, Wales and England will see a spell of heavier rain, sleet and snow. Western and northern parts of Scotland will see snow through the day which will spread to southern Scotland and northern England later.

Good Morning,

A strong west to northwesterly flow brings strong to gale force winds across the UK and Ireland today. This will bring frequent showers to western areas, some of these will be wintry. An area of heavy rain, sleet and snow moves across southern Ireland through the morning and into southwestern parts of the UK by lunchtime. More prolonged spells of snow are possible over western parts of Scotland too.

Showers continue for western coasts and hills into the afternoon with more persistent snow for western parts of Scotland. Rain, sleet and snow clear away from Ireland and Wales but spread across the Midlands and southern parts of England. Winds stay strong with gales, or severe gales, for coastal regions. Drier and brighter for northeast England and eastern parts of Ireland and Scotland. Chilly with highs of just 3 to 8C.

Staying very windy into the evening with severe gales for western coasts. Showers will persist for western areas while an area of snow could spread over southern Scotland and into the north of England.

Stay safe out there today!

Claire
