Better next week

Issued: 0900 Tuesday 13th August 2019

Wind and rain for the weekend but signs of an improvement next week

Unsettled weather on Friday and through the weekend as low pressure brings wind and rain followed by showers. There are signs of an improvement next week as pressure begins to rise. The timing of the improvement is still uncertain and it may be that it is the middle to the end of the week before the better conditions arrive.

For the weather for the next few days click here

Friday 16/8/19
Dry in the east on Friday morning with increasing cloud. Low pressure west of Scotland pushing fronts eastwards. The fronts bring rain, some of it heavy, especially in the west. The rain then passes eastwards and will be heavy at times. Winds will be strong to gale force. Showerier conditions push through Ireland in the morning and then into the west of the UK in the afternoon. Highs at 16 to 21C.

Saturday 17/8/19
Low pressure west of Scotland on Saturday. Fronts affecting southern England bringing cloud and rain here. A breezy day with a mix of sunshine and showers for most, the showers heaviest over western coasts and hills. Highs at 22C in southeast England, 16 to 19C elsewhere.

Sunday 18/8/19
Low pressure remains over Scotland on Sunday. This allows the winds to change into a cooler westerly direction for many. Sunshine and showers dominate, the showers heavy and thundery at times in Scotland , Wales, western England and Ireland with a risk of gales in the west. Highs at 20C in the south, but 14 to 17C for most of the country.

Monday 19/8/19
Low pressure to the east with a ridge of higher pressure building west of Ireland on Monday. Showers around northern and western coasts and hills, but tending to be drier in the east and south. Temperatures at 16 to 22C.

Tuesday 20/8/19
Weak fronts may bring some cloud and drizzle to the far west of Scotland on Tuesday, but for most a ridge of high pressure gives a fair day with spells of sunshine. Highs at 17 to 21C.

Wednesday 21/8/19
A weak ridge of high pressure remains on Wednesday. Weak fronts may give some rain in western Ireland with showers affecting northern and western Scotland. Isolated showers elsewhere with some sunny spells. Tops near 18 to 22C.
