Changeable weather continues

Issued: 0900hrs Monday 5th August 2019
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Feeling fresh into next week

A mix of sunny spells and heavy showers during the middle of this week. A developing area of low pressure is expected to bring heavy rain to most places by Friday, leading into an unsettled and showery weekend. Windy, with local gales possible around coasts. A fairly cool and showery pattern is likely early next week.

Thursday 08/08/19
The British Isles briefly lies between weather systems, and many places should escape with lengthy dry periods, and some places dry all day. There's still a risk of showers breaking out across northern regions, which may cluster together locally for a time in the afternoon. Fronts approaching from Biscay bring a risk of rain arriving for southwestern parts, turning heavy and becoming more extensive into the night. Light winds, freshening later. Highs 19 to 25C, warmest southeast.

Friday 09/08/19
Fronts are expected to sweep northwards, associated with low pressure centred to the southwest. A spell of heavy rainfall for many places, with a risk of local thunder. The most persistent falls transferring into Scotland through the day, whilst a rash of heavy showers will move across England & Wales from the southwest. Blustery winds, risk gusting gale force around exposed southwestern coasts. Highs 17 to 23C.

Saturday 10/08/19
Low pressure centred toward the north brings periods of heavy rain to north and western regions. Showery for many places, whilst east & southeast England may escape more often dry. Windy across southern counties, gusty around coasts and headlands. Temperatures up to 23C in the southeast, nearer 17 to 21C for most, cooler where rain persists.

Sunday 11/08/19
Low pressure continuing to dominate weather conditions in the UK and Ireland with further outbreaks of rain and heavy showers. Brighter to the east and south though still with the risk of isolated showers here. Highs at 15 to 22C.

Monday 12/08/19
A west to northwesterly flow on Monday pushes a band of rain from west to east across the British Isles. Brightening from the west later as a ridge of higher pressure tries to build. High temperatures at 16 to 21C.

Tuesday 13/08/19
A brief dry window in the east and south under higher pressure. Atlantic fronts are due to return to the west & northwest, with further spells of rain moving in. Highs 16 to 23C.
