Staying very cold for the next few days with some sleet and snow, but perhaps milder next week

The cold weather is set to continue as we head into the weekend. Strengthening winds will add to that cold feeling. There will be some sleet and snow affecting western areas as the snow showers in the east begin to ease. Some hints of milder weather arriving into next week, although confidence in this is low at the present time.

Friday 12/2/21
High-pressure is to the east of the UK on Saturday, with low pressure to the west. A strong south of the south easterly wind affects all areas. There will be plenty of cloud, especially in western areas of England and Wales as well as western Scotland, where there is a risk of some sleet and snow. Rain affects Ireland, some of it heavy. It's also likely to be misty in western parts. More eastern areas should stay drier with some bright or sunny spells. Feeling bitterly cold in the wind, especially in the east. Highs at 0 to 1C for many, but 10C in the far southwest of England and western Ireland.

Saturday 13/2/21
High-pressure stays to the east on Saturday with low-pressure to the west. A front will be bringing cloud and rain through Ireland, this turning to snow in the west of Scotland with a few flakes in western Wales too. It will be a breezy and very cold day for all, whilst being generally dry in eastern areas with broken cloud. Gales may affect Ireland as milder weather affects the country. Lots of mist and low cloud in Ireland and western coasts too. Highs at 11C in the far southwest of England, 10C in western Ireland, 3C in Northern Ireland and widely 0 to 2C in England, Wales and Scotland.

Sunday 14/2/21
A strong southerly wind affects all areas through Sunday. There will be cloud with rain, sleet and snow across Scotland, western England and Wales as well as Ireland. More eastern areas of England should be staying dry although feeling very cold in the wind. Ice will be a problem in the west with snow accumulations likely. Lots of mist and low cloud in many central and western areas. Highs at 0 to 3C, but 10C in southwest England and Ireland.

Monday 15/2/21
The southerly flow remains through Monday. Probably rather chilly across northern England and Scotland with a risk of some sleet and snow here, although this is turning increasingly to rain and drizzle before clearing. For England and Wales as well as Ireland it's probably a drier day with quite a lot of cloud and mild. Highs at 3C in Scotland and northern England, 12C in southwest England and Ireland.

Tuesday 16/2/21
Probably more mixed conditions on Tuesday with lower pressure north of Scotland driving fronts eastwards. This brings cloud and rain as well as milder from the Atlantic Ocean. Highs at 5 to 11C.

Wednesday 17/2/21
A week ridge of high-pressure bills through Wednesday. There may be some mist and fog in the morning, but this will clear to leave sunny spells and dry conditions. A risk of some low cloud and missed affecting western and south western coast and hills. Windier in western Ireland where there may be some rain. Highs at 6 to 12C.
