Turning milder
Unsettled this week

Issued: 0930 Saturday 13th February 2021
Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

Very cold clears out making way for milder yet unsettled weather. High pressure looks to build at the weekend.

The cold weather is to continue for most through this weekend before milder air consumes much of the country next week onwards. Weather will be unsettled this week but high pressure then looks to gradually build in across the UK and Ireland at the weekend showing signs of a more settled weather pattern to come.

For the weather for the next few days click here

Tuesday 16/02/21
A wet start for the southeast of England as well as for the northwest of Scotland on Tuesday. This will soon clear and with a brief ridge building across the country it should be a mostly fine day thereafter and elsewhere, although showers affecting far western areas. Rain will push in across southwest Ireland by evening. Highs at 4 to 9C across Scotland and northern England and 7 to 11C elsewhere.

Wednesday 17/02/21
A cloudy and largely wet day is expected for midweek. Patchy outbreaks of rain about, some heavy across western areas. A breezy day with highs at 6 to 11C although central parts of Scotland will be cooler.

Thursday 18/02/21
There is some model disagreement regarding the weather on Thursday, but currently it is looking more likely it will continue to be largely unsettled with wet conditions for most. England and Wales seeing any heaviest and more persistent rainfall while northern areas perhaps seeing longer spells of drier weather. Likely to be another breezy day but on the milder side for many. Highs at 9 to 12C for most although northern Scotland highs at 3 to 6C.

Friday 19/02/21
Again confidence is low on the detail for Friday but consistency in high pressure building in the south is still there. Perhaps a largely wet morning for many but turning drier for particularly northern areas through the afternoon. Highs at a very mild 10 to 14C for most but cooler air skimming across northern and central Scotland with highs here at 4 to 8C.

Saturday 20/02/21
High pressure over the near continent looks to push in more across southeastern areas of the UK on Saturday. It will be largely dry although still likely for more cloud cover along with some rain to affect the far north and northwest of Scotland. Highs at 6 to 9C for Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England. Highs at a significantly milder 11 to 15C elsewhere.

Sunday 21/02/21
High pressure looking more likely to dominate the scene on Sunday allowing for potentially a dry day across the board. There is the risk, however, for northwestern areas to see thicker cloud with some rain. Southern areas seeing highs significantly milder than average again with a maximum at 14 or 15C but cooler further north.
