Heavy rain at first

Issued: 0800 Monday 15th February 2021
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Very wet this week and much milder, turning drier into the weekend and becoming very mild too

A real change in conditions during the coming week when compared with the first half of the month. Temperatures are going to be rising with mild and very mild weather in all parts of the British Isles. There will be a significant amount of rain during the week, a risk of gales too. However, rainfall amounts fall into the weekend as higher pressure builds.

Heavy periods of rain on Thursday morning as a shallow area of low pressure spins its way northwards. Saturday 20/2/21
Low pressure remains west of Scotland on Saturday. Fronts trail across Ireland and western Scotland with cloud and rain because of these. For England, Wales and eastern Scotland the day should be dry and very mild. Some low cloud, drizzle and mist may affect western coasts and hills, but for most it should be dry with plenty of sunshine. Highs around 9 to 15C.

Sunday 21/2/21
A weak front trails through northern England and Wales on Sunday, although pressure is generally high. There will be some cloud and perhaps some drizzle along the line of the front, but for most places the day is dry and mild. Sunny spells in southern areas. Some showers in northern and western Scotland, drier for Ireland and eastern Scotland with sunny periods. Highs at 8 to 11C in the north, 14C in the south.

Monday 22/2/21
A ridge of high pressire affects most of England, Wales and southern Ireland on Monday. This should be bringing fair conditions with sunny spells, although some low cloud, mist and drizzle coud afect western and southern coasts and hills. Windy in Scotland with some rain in the west, but fair in the east. Very mild at 10 to 17C.

Tuesday 23/2/21
Higher pressure stays to the south on Tuesday. Cloud and some rain in Scotland, this bringing rain in the west. Some rain in western and northern Ireland too.
