Frequent rain and thunder
Feeling humid

Issued: 1000hrs Thursday 1st August 2019
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Ongoing unsettled patterns well into August

Low pressure sitting to the west of Britain will push warm and humid air across the country in the next few days, with some heavy bursts of rain at times. Slack low pressure will dominate next week, with further hit and miss downpours expected. Generally wet weather is due to persist for at least the 10 day outlook.

Sunday 04/08/19
Various fronts will be pushing across Britain and Ireland from the southwest, with a slack southerly airflow maintaining a humid and rather cloudy picture for most places. Patchy rain, focused around western areas in the morning, but an increasing risk of rain developing more widely through the day, with some heavy and thundery bursts tracking slowly into east and northeastern districts. South & southeast England may escape mainly dry where it will be very warm. Highs 22 to 27C.

Monday 05/08/19
Little change in the overall pattern, with a humid south to southwesterly airflow prevailing. Patches of rain from early in the day across some north & western regions, and once again local heavy bursts are likely to develop through the day. East and southern counties of England may again escape largely dry with warm sunny spells. Highs 22 to 26C.

Tuesday 06/08/19
Areas of persistent rain are likely to affect many west and northern parts of Britain and Ireland as Atlantic fronts continue to feed in. A lot of cloud, but a rather humid feel again for many places. Best chance of staying dry is likely to be across southeastern England. Winds generally light, breezy near some western coasts. Highs 19 to 25C.

Wednesday 07/08/19
Slack low pressure is on the scene once again into midweek, with a continuation of areas of rain and local heavy showers, some thundery bursts in places. Light winds means showers will move around slowly, and a few spots may miss them and stay dry. Highs 18 to 23C.

Thursday 08/08/19
Low pressure is likely to stay nearby, with another day of showers expected. Once again, some places will see heavy and thundery downpours, whilst locally there may be very little rain. Less warm than earlier in the week, highs 17 to 22C.

Friday 09/08/19
The unsettled story is expected to continue, although detail is very uncertain. Areas of rain or showers probably affecting much of the UK, but with sunny spells for some. Highs 16 to 22C.
