A cooler week ahead with some sleet and snow at times, mostly in Scotland and northern England. Wednesday 5/1/22
A ridge of high pressure builds through Ireland on Wednesday bringing dry and cold weather as well as sunshine. Cloud increases here through the day with rain in the west. Cold for England, Wales and Scotland with a morning frost for many and plenty of sunshine. Some snow showers in northern and eastern Scotland as well as northeast England. The showers fade through the day with better spells of sunshine developing. Windy at first in the north and east the winds then easing from the west. Highs at 3 to 7C.

Thursday 6/1/22
A windy day for all with gales to the north and west. A front with rain associated with low pressure west of Ireland will push eastwards across the country, and is likely to bring some snow on the preceding edge over the hills of northern England and Scotland. Drier and brighter yet still windy weather follows from the west although some blustery showers, wintry on hills. Highs 4 to 10C.

Friday 7/1/22
Another windy but largely dry day in central and eastern regions, although some frequent and heavy showers across western areas, falling as a mix of rain, sleet and snow, especially on hills. The showers could merge into longer spells of rain, sleet and snow at times. Highs 3 to 6C.

Saturday 8/1/22
Becoming windy again with rain spreading from the west, some sleet or snow on the highest ground of Scotland and northern England. Turning windier again too. Highs at 4 to 9C.

Sunday 9/1/22
Low pressure to the east of the country on Sunday. This brings sunny spells and scattered showers. Highs at 4 to 7C.

Monday 10/1/22
A dry day for Monday with a slack pressure flow. There may be some morning mist and fog patches although these clear. Some bright spells developing, although more cloud slipping into the west. Highs at 3 to 7C.
