Some wintry conditions at the weekend, otherwise dry for most

High pressure will be bringing lots of dry weather across much of the country through the coming week. Conditions will be turning colder and windier for a time from this weekend into the early parts of next week. A risk of some wintry conditions over, mostly, the hills of northern England and Scotland.

Saturday 29/1/22
Low pressure brings gales and a period of rain in Scotland early on Saturday. Turning brighter and cooler through the day with sleet and snow over hills. Cloud and showery rain pushing into northern England and Ireland, these wintry over hills. Southern areas will be drier with broken cloud, a few spots of drizzle over western coasts and hills. Breezy for all. Highs at 8 to 12C and turning colder in Scotland.


Sunday 30/1/22
An area of showers and rain crossing the country later on Sunday. This could turn to sleet and snow on the hills over Wales, northern England, Northern Ireland and southern Scotland. Breezier and colder with some wintry showers in northern Scotland. Breezy too in southern England, mostly dry. Highs at 3 to 9C.

Monday 31/1/22
A cold northwesterly flow easing back through Monday but a significant wind chill be affect all. Showers in the north, wintry over hills, and down coasts, more so the west. Becoming brighter with sunny spells and breezy too. Cloud and some showers in Ireland, northern and western coasts and hills, these falling as sleet and snow, mainly on high ground. Highs at 5 to 8C.

Tuesday 1/2/22
A front passes southwards on Tuesday bringing low cloud and some patchy rain for a time, clearing to brighter conditions but blustery showers in the west. A windy day for all with gales in the north and west though mild with highs at 9 to 13C.

Wednesday 2/2/22
Showers merging into longer spells of rain once again on Wednesday, mainly affecting western areas, drier further south and east. Windy still in the north with gales perhaps expected in the northwest still. Highs at 8 to 11C.

Thursday 3/2/22
Less windy on Thursday but showers to the northwest and perhaps some longer spells of rain moving across Ireland into Wales and southwest England later in the day. Highs at 6 to 10C.
