A front drifting into northwestern Britain brings some periods of rain to western Scotland and Northern Ireland. Otherwise, many places will be dry with sunny spells and variable cloud. Showery bursts of rain forming locally, risk of thunder - focused on southwest England, mid-Wales and northern England. Local bursts too in northeast Scotland. Southern counties and East Anglia more likely to stay dry. A southerly breeze tends to freshen. Highs 17 to 23C, warmest in the East Midlands.

Wednesday night
Some rain continues to affect western Scotland and Ireland, whilst showers elsewhere will tend to fizzle out late into Wednesday evening. The odd burst of rain may drift across central and northern England overnight. Many places dry with variable cloud and clear spells. Some local mist pockets by dawn following previous rain. Southerly winds increasing around coasts, particularly in the southwest. Lows 9 to 14C, coolest in rural areas Wales and northern England.

Thursday
Low pressure moves in from the west bringing widespread rain and heavy showers. A dry start in eastern England but bursts of rain tending to advance eastwards through the day. Risk of thunderstorms locally. The far northwest of Scotland likely escaping driest with a little sunshine. Strong south to southwesterly winds, may gust gale force around coasts in southwest England. Temperatures rather cool in rain, between 13 and 17C, maximum 22C in brighter spells.

Friday
An unsettled pattern with low pressure in charge. Areas of heavy rain rotate northwards into Scotland, risk of some prolonged heavy rain in east and central Scotland. Clusters of thundery downpours across England and Wales, developing most widely into the afternoon. Breezy in the south, lighter winds toward the north. Eastern counties should see some sun and feeling quite warm. Cool in constant rain. Maximum values 17 to 22C.
