Fog and low cloud; patchy rain or drizzle at times

High pressure stays to the south of Britain through to New Year, maintaining a mild and damp southwesterly pattern across the country. A lot of cloud, with occasional rain or drizzle, mostly in the west & north-west. Some stubborn fog, but frost will be rare. Generally mild.

High pressure lies to the south, whilst further fronts move into northwestern Britain and Ireland. Largely dry for central & south-east England. Rain and drizzle for western Scotland and Northern Ireland plus brisk southwesterly winds, perhaps local gales. Some rain may also affect Wales and north-west England. Highs 6 to 10C.
 

Sunday 30/12/18
High pressure stays to the south, keeping many places dry and dull. Some rain and drizzle in the north-west as fronts continue to drift in from the Atlantic. Best of any sun toward the east. Breezy in the north. Light winds in the south, with some low level fog possible. Generally mild, highs 8 to 12C.
 

New Year's Eve 31/12/18
Little overall change, with high pressure to the south and fronts passing to the north. Murky with a risk of fog. A little sunshine breaking through in places, best toward the east of high ground. Patchy rain north-west. Highs 6 to 11C.

Generally mild and damp with a risk of fog. A little rain or drizzle in the west and north-west. Highs 6 to 11C.

Northern areas may become cooler, with a risk of showery rain. Central and southern parts probably grey with some fog. Highs 5 to 10C.

Staying mostly dull, with fog and low cloud. A risk of patchy rain for some. Mild in the south, cool north. Highs 5 to 9C.
