Cool days ahead, milder and wetter weekend, then mixed next week

A quieter and colder spells of weather over the next couple of days. Becoming wet and windy for a time at the weekend as low pressure moves in bringing some milder air too. Brighter next week with temperatures near average a a mix of rain and showers.

Friday 14/12/18
Low pressure west of Scotland on Friday with high pressure to the east of the UK again. Cloud in the west will be producing periods of patchy rain. A few showers on the eastern coasts of Scotland and northeast England. Dry and chilly in other areas with the cloud breaking and a few bright spells developing. Highs at a cold 3 to 6C in the UK, 11C in southern Ireland

Saturday 15/12/18
Fronts pushing eastwards through Saturday with quickly falling pressure. Rain will be affecting all areas, some of this heavy at times, especially in the west and north. There is a risk of some short-lived snow over the Pennines and the hills of Scotland. Winds will be to gale force as the rain sweeps in. Drier and brighter weather follows into Ireland, the winds easing in the west. Tops at a milder 7 to 13C.

Sunday 16/12/18
A southwest flow affects the whole of the UK and Ireland on Sunday. Low pressure is to the northwest of Scotland. Showers affecting western parts of the country but brighter in the east. The showers may turn to more persistent rain in the west as the day progresses. Highs at 6 to 11C.
 

Monday 17/12/18
A complex area of low pressure to the west of Scotland on Monday. Rain clears east to be followed by sunny spells and scattered showers. Temperatures at 5 to 11C.

Tuesday 18/12/18
Low pressure west of Scotland pushes fronts eastwards. These bring rain and strong winds, the rain heavy as it passes through. Highs at 5 to 11C.

Wednesday 19/12/18
Sunshine and showers for Wednesday. Most of the showers will be to the west of the UK and a few of them may be heavy. Drier in the east. Highs at 5 to 9C.
