Rain at times north-west
High pressure located to the south of Britain through to New Year will promote a mild and damp southwesterly pattern across the country. A lot of cloud, with occasional rain or drizzle, mostly in the west & north-west. Some stubborn fog, but frost will be rare. Generally mild.

Friday 28/12/18 A trough of low pressure and fronts will move across Scotland and northern England bringing a period of rain followed by showers, clearing from the west as pressure rebuilds later. A little rain for Wales and the Midlands. Largely dry for the south and east. Sunshine breaking through for Ireland. Breezy in the north, gusty westerly winds. Highs 7 to 11C.
Saturday 29/12/18 High pressure lies to the south, whilst further fronts move into northwestern Britain and Ireland. Largely dry for central & south-east England. Rain and drizzle for western Scotland and Northern Ireland plus brisk southwesterly winds, perhaps local gales. Some rain may also affect Wales and north-west England. Highs 6 to 10C.
Sunday 30/12/18 High pressure stays to the south, keeping many places dry and dull. Some rain and drizzle in the north-west as fronts continue to drift in from the Atlantic. Best of any sun toward the east. Breezy in the north. Light winds in the south, with some low level fog possible. Generally mild, highs 8 to 12C.
New Year's Eve 31/12/18 Little overall change, with high pressure to the south and fronts passing to the north. Murky with a risk of fog. Patchy rain north-west. Highs 6 to 11C.
New Year's Day 01/01/19 Generally mild and damp with a risk of fog. A little rain or drizzle in the west and north-west. Highs 6 to 11C.
Wednesday 02/01/19 Northern areas may become cooler, with a risk of showery rain. Central and southern parts probably grey with some fog. Highs 5 to 10C.
