Dull and drizzly, mostly dry in the south, mild for all
High pressure remains in control of conditions across much of the UK and Ireland during the coming week. However, fronts will intrude from time to time bringing rain, most of it light and patchy and tending to be in northern areas. Western coasts and hills seeing some drizzle too. A fair amount of cloud for all parts. Tending to stay rather milder with the wind predominantly from the southwest.

Sunday 30/1/18 High pressure stays to the south, keeping many places dry and dull. Some rain and drizzle in the north-west as fronts continue to drift in from the Atlantic. The best of any sunshine is likely in the east and south. Breezy in the north. Light winds in the south, with some low level fog possible. Generally mild, highs 8 to 12C.
New Year's Eve 31/12/18 Little overall change, with high pressure to the south and fronts passing to the north. Murky with a risk of fog. A little sunshine breaking through in places, best toward the east of high ground and in more southern areas when any fog clears. Patchy rain in the north-west. Highs at 7 to 12C.
New Year's Day 1/1/19 High pressure stays in control through New Year's Day. There will be variable cloud, some mist and fog patches, but also some sunnier spells. The highest risk of drizzle is along southern and western coasts of Ireland together with western Scotland. Mild again at 7 to 12C.
Wednesday 2/1/19 Northern areas may become a little cooler on Wednesday, with a risk of showery rain. Cloud tending to affect western areas with some drizzle on coasts. Central and southern parts probably grey with some mist and fog. Highs 5 to 10C.
Thursday 3/1/19 A risk of a more unsettled day on Thursday as low pressure passes east. This brings outbreaks of rain, some heavy in the north and it may be breezy too. Brighter skies with a few showers following from the west. Highs at 5 to 8C.
Friday 4/1/19 A return to quieter conditions as a ridge of higher pressure builds. This brings mist and fog patches and it should be generally dry. More rain is possible later in the west.Tops at 5 to 10C.
