Week ahead - November 30, 2018
Rain and snow
An unsettled theme

Issued: 1000hrs Friday 30th November 2018
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Often chilly north, mild south

There will be a real mixture of weather during the week ahead. Overall it looks rather unsettled with weather systems coming in from the Atlantic. Wind and rain will be frequent, and snow is likely over the hills. By midweek onward, there's a greater risk of snow to lower levels for Scotland and northern England. Temperatures will more often stay mild in the south with only occasional frost.

Monday 03/12/18
A complex pattern with low pressure passing east, and pressure then tending to build from the west. Breezy with a few areas of showers, focused toward the west and north. Locally persistent rain for a time. Driest in central-eastern England with some sunshine. Snow over Scottish mountains. Mild for many places, highs of 12 to 14C south and east, but nearer 6 to 9C for the north of Britain and Ireland.

Tuesday 04/12/18
A brief ridge of high pressure influences the country. Fog patches and frost in the morning, especially in the north. Northern and eastern areas stay dry and sunny. Cloud builds from the south-west as fronts move back in from the Atlantic. Rain developing in south-west England and Wales plus southern Ireland, setting in into the evening. Temperatures rising to between 6 and 10C, perhaps milder south.

Wednesday 05/12/18
An unsettled day as low pressure moves back across the country. A spell of heavy rain moves eastwards across England & Wales. A risk of snow for the hills of southern Scotland and northern England, perhaps falling to low levels in places. Possible gales. Temperatures varied from 10 to 12C south, to just 3 to 5C north.

Thursday 06/12/18
Pressure briefly builds from the west, leading to clearing skies and scope for frost in the morning. After a bright start, renewed weather fronts are due to move back in from the Atlantic through the day, bringing another batch of wind, rain and hill snow. Temperatures cooler than previous days, 4 to 7C, locally 10C south.

Friday 07/12/18
Unsettled but uncertain as complex areas of low pressure move across the UK and Ireland. A likelihood of wind and rain, plus some snow, chiefly in northern areas and over hills, but may locally fall to lower levels. Highs 4 to 10C.

Saturday 08/12/18
Most likely staying unsettled with low pressure in charge. Precise detail is very uncertain, but a continued risk of rain and possible snow for some. Windy and cool. Highs 4 to 9C.
