Prolonged spells of heavy rain affecting parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, south Wales and the West Country at times today

Good morning,

It will be a chilly start to the day with temperatures widely close to, or below freezing. Heavy snow is expected over the Scottish Highlands, Southern Uplands, the northern Pennines, the Lakes District and over the Welsh mountains too first thing. Heavy rain is also expected for northeastern Scotland while western Ireland and the southwest of the UK can expected some moderate rainfall or showers. It will be windy in the north with gales expected for the far north of Scotland, Orkney and the Western Isles.

Snow will ease through the morning for most but further heavy rain is expected across much of Scotland and Northern Ireland. Further south, showers will spread across Wales and into western England. Showery rain will also affect the far southeast. Mostly dry across Ireland through the late morning.

Showers will spread across Ireland throughout the afternoon and will continue for eastern parts of England, southeastern Scotland and western Wales. Some good bright spells will develop across northern and central Scotland through the late afternoon and into the evening. High temperatures will widely range from 6 to 9C though some parts of the southeast could see 10 or 11C.

Heavy rain will affect southern Wales and southwest England through the later part of Wednesday afternoon and into the evening. This will continue through Thursday morning.

Have a good day!
Claire
