Morning Call - April 20, 2019
Dry & bright for most
Showery in the northwest

Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

A dry and bright start to the holiday weekend for most of the country and feeling warm away from the far northwest. Showers and spells of rain are expected over northern Scotland.

Good morning,

It will be a mostly dry start to the day across the UK and Ireland. Milder in the west where cloud is thicker, chillier to the east and in more rural areas. There could be some mist and fog patches around, particularly over central and southern parts of England, but these should be short-lived and burn off quickly as temperatures rise. A few isolated showers too are not out of the question over far northwestern parts of Scotland and Ireland.

As the morning goes on showers could become more frequent over northwestern Scotland though it should stay mostly dry elsewhere. It will always be cloudier in northwestern areas with cloud breaking to the southeast. The best of the brightness will be over East Anglia and the Southeast. High temperatures reaching 18 to 21C for most, though 22 or 23C is not out of the question in the southeast. In northwestern Scotland however temperatures will struggle to rise much above 13 or 14C.

Showers will continue to increase in intensity over northern Scotland through the afternoon and there could be some heavy bursts of rain at times in the northeast through the evening. A risk of showers continuing too through the afternoon for northwestern parts of Ireland. Elsewhere there ill be a good deal of sunshine around with the best of the clear skies in the southeast.

Have a great Bank Holiday weekend!
Claire
