A cool and showery day ahead

Good morning,

A cold front extends across northern England first thing this morning. Behind this front, over Scotland and Ireland, it will be rather chilly with some frost and icy patches first thing. Ahead of the front temperatures will milder - well above freezing. The front will bring a band of rain, which will be heavy at times, to much of England and Wales throughout the morning as it sweeps southeastward. It should clear eastern England by the late afternoon.

Behind the front it will feel cool and there will be a mixture of good sunny spells and scattered showers. These showers will fall as snow over higher ground and some of them will be thundery in nature bringing a risk of hail. Showers could merge over Ireland, where it will also be rather breezy, to give longer spells of rain at times through the afternoon. High temperatures widely reaching 6 to 10C.

Showers will ease for central areas through Tuesday evening though some will linger in eastern and western coastal areas, particularly in areas exposed to the northerly wind. The best of any clearer skies will be for northwestern Scotland, central England and eastern Wales.

Have a good day!
Claire
