Morning Call - January 07, 2019
Gales in the north
Damaging gusts possible anywhere

Issued: 0530hrs Monday 7th January 2019
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

A low pressure system will bring some very stormy conditions to the north. Gale force wind gusts are possible almost anywhere in the UK

Good morning,

It will be a wet and windy start to the day for northwestern areas as a potent low pressure system tracks eastward to the north of Scotland. Rain and gale force winds will be affecting northern and northwestern Scotland by the early morning. Near gale force winds will be affecting an area extending from northwestern Ireland to northeastern Scotland. Gale force gusts are possible over the northern half of the British Isles.

Winds will strengthen and move south and eastward through the morning along with a band of rain. The rain will become increasingly patchy and light away from the northwest though it will remain cloudy almost everywhere. By midday storm force winds are expected to be affecting Orkney while gale force winds are likely over the northern part of Scotland. Gale force gusts are possible over most parts of the UK through Monday afternoon. High temperatures will reach 7 or 8C over Scotland, 9 to 11C everywhere else.

Through the evening, winds will ease slightly in the northwest but strengthen along the east coasts of Scotland and England. Light rain will persist for areas exposed to the northwesterly wind but it should remain dry but overcast everywhere else.

Have a great day!
Claire
