Dry and bright in the east
Wintry showers in the northwest

A northwest to northerly airflow dominates as we have low pressure off to the east and higher pressure to the west

Good morning,

Largely clear skies overnight from Sunday into Monday will allow temperatures to plummet overnight leading to a very cold start to the day for most of us. Overnight lows widely below freezing will lead to a widespread frost and icy patches first thing on Monday. It will be a largely dry and bright start to the day for many though some wintry showers may linger along the East Anglia coast and the northern and western coasts of Scotland. To the west a band of light rain will be edging across Ireland through Monday morning and cloud will be building ahead of this over Scotland.

Cloud will continue to build eastward through Monday afternoon though precipitation will become increasingly showery in nature as it moves across Wales, Scotland and England. Scotland and northern England will see light wintry showers while Wales and central and southern England will see scattered showers of light rain. Eastern England should stay dry and bright for most of the day. High temperatures reaching 4 or 5C in Scotland and Northern Ireland, 6C or even 7C in England and Wales.

Over Scotland and northern England cloud will break into Monday evening and showers will become confined to coastal parts of Scotland, Ireland and the north of England. Temperatures are expected to fall to or below zero for many areas through Monday evening so ice and frost may become a risk again through the later part of the evening.

Have a great day!
Claire
