A mixed week of weather ahead with sunny spells and scattered showers at times

A period of unsettled weather coming up for the UK and Ireland. Although higher pressure does try to build, low pressure stays nearby which brings us a mixture of good sunny spells and scattered showers, some of which will be thundery at times. Temperatures close to average for the time of year.

Tuesday 21/05/19
Low pressure stays close by on Tuesday. This brings some sunny spells and showers. The showers tending to be scattered, although they could be thundery in places. Drier and brighter for the southwest, eastern parts of Ireland and the far north of Scotland. High temperatures widely at 12 to 17C: 18 to 20C in some favoured spots in England.

Wednesday 22/05/19
A slack pressure gradient over the UK and Ireland on Wednesday. This brings a mixture of sunny spells and showers. A low pressure system may bring some rain into Ireland, Wales and northwestern parts of England later. Drier and brighter in the north. Highs at 14 to 19C for most. Just 11 to 12C in the northwest of Scotland.
 

Thursday 23/05/19
Pressure builds on Thursday bringing good sunny spells and a dry day for most. Some showers developing later across Ireland, the south of England and the far north of Scotland. Highs at 15 to 18C for most. Just 10 or 11C in the northwest of Scotland while some favoured spots in England could see 20C.
 

Friday 24/05/19
Low pressure to the south on Friday extends a trough across the country. This brings periods of rain to Ireland, Wales, central and southern England and eastern Scotland. Sunny spells elsewhere. Highs widely at 16 to 18C; 19 to 20C is possible in the southeast while the far northwest will reach just 11 or 12C.

Saturday 25/05/19
Saturday sees low pressure moving to the southeast. A mostly bright day for the UK and Ireland with scattered showers developing through the afternoon. High temperatures at 10 to 18C.

Sunday 26/05/19
A similar day to Saturday with low pressure to the southeast. Another mostly bright day with scattered showers. These becoming more concentrated along northeast-facing coasts and hills. High temperatures at 10 to 19C.
