Heat builds in the south with a thundery breakdown at the weekend, cooler more showery north

A brief heatwave this week in much of England, wales and perhaps even eastern Scotland. Showers in northern and western areas of Scotland with strong winds here at times. A tendency towards a thundery breakdown towards the week in southern parts of the country, then fresher, showery conditions next week.

Thursday 16/6/22
High pressure east of the UK on Thursday. Cloud and periods of rain for central and western Scotland as well as parts of northern and western Ireland. Dry in other areas of the British Isles. Best of any sunshine in the south and east with more cloud to the north and west. A risk of some low cloud afecting the western coasts of Wales and England at times. Highs at 28C in southern England, 23 to 26C for many, 14C in northwest Scotland.

Friday 17/6/22
A front brings some rain and stronger winds into the northern half of Scotland through Friday, patchy rain in the south. Rain may also affect the far west of Ireland. An area of thundery showers may develop through the Isle of Man and northern England as well as north Wales. Dry for the rest of England and Wales and staying dry too. Highs at a very warm 30C in southeast England, cooler in northern and western Scotland at 15 to 17C.

Saturday 18/6/22
Low pressure to the south of the country on Saturday may push an area of thundery rain into England and Wales. The rain is likely to be heaviest in the south and east, slowly easing south. Low pressure north and west of Scotland bringing some showers here. Ireland should be dry with sunny spells, and mostly dry in northern England too. Highs at 27C in the far south of England, more widely 14 to 17C. Sunday 19/6/22
Low pressure to the south on Sunday brings the risk of som thundery rain in the far southeast of England. Most areas will be dry and cool with sunny spells, although some rain in northwest Scotland. Highs at 14 to 19C.

Monday 20/6/22
A ridge of high pressure brings a dry day over England and Wales with sunny spells, the best in the east and south. Cloud and rain in Ireland and western Scotland, brighter in the east. Highs at 23C in southern England, 15C in western Scotland.

Tuesday 21/6/22
A band of showery rain pushing south through England and Wales. More persistent showers for northern and western Scotland as well as Ireland and northwest England. Brighter in eastern Ireland, much of Wales and eastern England. Highs at 11C in western Scotland, 21C in southeast England.
