Hot for a time for some, turning thundery and wetter as well as windier and cooler by the weekend

Heat building this week in many areas of the country with a heatwave for some. It will be cooler in northern and western Scotland with showers here. Indications are that conditions become thundery, windier, cooler and much wetter in England and Wales towards the weekend.

Wednesday 15/6/22
Pressure remains high through much of the country, centred in more southern areas. There will be sunny spells and it should be dry across much of England and Wales. Cloudier in Scotland and Ireland with some drizzle and low cloud in the west. Temperatures at 25C in southeast England, 20C in southern Ireland and 14C in western Scotland.
 

Thursday 16/6/22
High pressure east of the UK on Thursday. Cloud and some patchy rain for western Scotland and parts of northern and western Ireland. Dry in other areas of the British Isles. Best of any sunshine in the south and east with more cloud to the north and west. Highs at 28C in southern England, 23 to 26C for many, 14C in northwest Scotland.

Friday 17/6/22
A front brings some rain and stronger winds into northern and western Scotland through Friday, patchy rain in the east. More rain for the north and west of Ireland, the front weakening as it moves into northern England and the east and south of Ireland. By then the rain become slighter and more patchy. Dry for the rest of England and Wales and staying dry too. Highs at a very warm 29C in southeast England, cooler in northern and western ares at 15 to 17C.

Saturday 18/6/22
Low pressure to the south of the country on Saturday may push an area of thundery rain into southern England and southern Wales. This rain may be heavy as it edges north. Low pressure north and west of Scotland bringing some showers here, these affecting western Ireland too. Dry for other areas and bright. Highs at 14 to 17C. Winds in the far north and far south.

Sunday 19/6/22
Low pressure over southwest England on Sunday. This brings strong winds, cloud and rain over much of England and Wales as well as southern and eastern Ireland. Some showers again in northern and western Scotland as well as western Ireland. Highs at 21C in southeast England, 12C in northern Scotland and widely a cool 12 to 15C.

Monday 20/6/22
Wet again across southern England and southern Ireland with thundery rain in places. A few outbreaks of rain in northern England. Dry in Scotland with sunny spells. Highs at 17C in Scotland and Ireland, 15C in southern England.
