Colder with showers, some of them heavy

The weather turns colder next week as the winds become more north to northwesterly. There will be showers, some of them heavy, especially in the north and east. The chilliest of the weather in northern Scotland. Little changes through the week with Tuesday and Wednesday probably the most unsettled day.

Sunday 26/5/19
Low pressure crosses Scotland on Sunday. This takes fronts with it, bringing some heavy periods of rain to much of Scotland and northwest England. A more showery band of rain passing eastwards over the rest of northern England and Wales, into the Midlands and southern England in the afternoon. Brighter weather with scattered showers follow to the west. Temperatures at a cold 9C in northern Scotland, 13 to 16C in northern and western parts, but to 21C in eastern England.

Monday 27/5/19
Low pressure dominates into Monday with fronts pushing south. The fronts give showers, some heavy especially in northern England, Wales and Ireland. Showers may merge into more persistent rai in Scotland with the risk of some wintry conditions over the highest parts of the Scottish mountains. Breezy and cold at 7C in central Scotland, 12 to 14C for many other areas.
 

Tuesday 28/5/19
A north to northwesterly flow on Tuesday. A mix of sunny spells and showers, some of them heavy at times in the north. Generally brighter in the west. Highs at a cold 8C in northern Scotland, 13C in southern England.

 
 
 

Wednesday 29/5/19
Pressure stays low on Wednesday. Further periods of showers and rain affecting many areas, some of them heavy in the west. Another chilly day at 9C in northern Scotland, 15C in southern England.

Thursday 30/5/19
Sunny spells and showers again with a northwest flow affecting the UK and Ireland. Most showers in northern and eastern areas. Drier in the west and south with the best sunshine here. Highs at 9C in northern Scotland, 16C in southern England.

Friday 31/5/19
Northwest winds bring a day of sunny spells and scattered showers, again with these mainly in the north and east. Better west and south. Tops at 12C in northern Scotland, 18C in southern England.
