Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

Turning unsettled from Tuesday onwards, but feeling milder

From Tuesday low pressure starts to influence the weather over the British Isles. This will keep temperatures mild but it will turn cloudy, wet and windy for most. Indications are that this will persist through the weekend though there may be a brief respite on Saturday as a weak ridge of high pressure tries to build from the south.

Tuesday 27/11/18
A low pressure system is located to the west of Ireland on Tuesday with higher pressure to the east. Strong winds and rain arriving in Ireland through the morning and pushing eastward across much of the United Kingdom by evening. The heaviest rain will be in southwest of Ireland and across the south of England. Some sunny spells in the far east. Highs at 5 to 12C.

Wednesday 28/11/18
A low pressure system is centred to the northwest of Scotland keeping most of Ireland and the UK cloudy, wet and windy on Wednesday. The cloud may break in the south leaving some sunny spells for the south in the late afternoon. Winds may reach gale force over higher ground and along coasts. Highs at a much milder 10 to 14C.

Thursday 29/11/18
Low pressure stays close by to the north on Thursday. It will be a cloudy start for most though the cloud will break behind a band of rain which will move eastward across the country. The heaviest rain will be across northern Wales and the northern half of England. Staying breezy with near gale force winds still possible for some coastal areas. Highs at 7 to 12C.

Friday 30/11/18
Low pressure remaining to the north on Friday. Cloudy in the north of Scotland on Friday with increasing brightness and sunny spells further south. Some rain for the northwest of Scotland and a chance of drizzle along western coasts. Near gale force winds possible for the islands of Scotland and around the coasts of the northern half of the UK. Turning cooler. Highs at 5 to 9C.

Saturday 01/12/18
A ridge of higher pressure may build from the south on Saturday. This leads to an early frost but then a dry and bright day for most areas. Early mist and fog patches clearing quickly. Cloud increasing in Ireland bringing some rain by the afternoon. It will also be accompanied by strong winds. High temperatures of 5 to 10C.

Sunday 02/12/18
