Week ahead - November 21, 2018
Cool and dull
Occasional showers

Issued: 0900hrs Wednesday 21st November 2018
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Some frost and fog

Cool and murky November weather will continue through this weekend. Easterly winds will bring showers to eastern districts, these mostly of rain, with snow confined to higher ground. Next week will see a battle between the existing cold air, and milder air trying to come in from the south-west. Rain may develop widely, with a risk of snow over the hills.

Saturday 24/11/18
A chilly day with an easterly breeze across the British Isles. Showers will be focused on north-east England and eastern England. A zone of more frequent rain may also affect south-west England and English Channel coasts. A lot of cloud, and some areas will be rather murky, with fog patches in the morning. Best sunny breaks toward the west & north-west. Temperatures ranging from 5 to 7C in the north, up to 10 or 11C in the south.

Sunday 25/11/18
A familiar chilly easterly flow across the country. Some persistent rain may develop in the far south-west. Again there will be showers in eastern districts, locally frequent near North Sea coasts. Central and western areas mainly dry, with sunshine best toward western Scotland and north-west England. A few showers may affect eastern Ireland. Feeling cool in the breeze, highs 6 to 10C.

Monday 26/11/18
Little overall change to the weather pattern. An easterly flow continues, with a few areas of light showers around eastern coasts. A risk of showery rain too across southern England as low pressure resides around the English Channel. A cool easterly breeze. Frost in sheltered spots in the morning. Highs 5 to 9C.

Tuesday 27/11/18
Confidence becomes low heading into midweek. High pressure is likely to stay to the east and north-east, whilst frontal systems try to move in from the south-west, bringing a risk of rain, perhaps snow over the hills on its leading edge. Generally cloudy and dull, some fog. Highs 4 to 9C.

Wednesday 28/11/18
Low confidence. Generally cool, or cold in northern areas. A risk of some rain, possibly hill snow. Mostly cloudy. Temperatures may become milder in the south, highs ranging from 4 to 7C north, to perhaps locally 12C far south-west.

Thursday 29/11/18
Further cool and unsettled conditions for many. A risk of rain moving in from the south-west, whilst the north of Britain may escape drier. Highs 5 to 12C.
