Windy by midweek

Issued: 0900hrs Thursday 22nd November 2018
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Chilly and dull early in the week

A rather stagnant weather pattern will exist this weekend and early next week. It will stay on the cool side, with murky skies and patchy rain. The middle of next week is likely to see a push of milder air coming in from the south-west, at least temporarily, with some wind and rain. Chilly conditions may soon return, with a mix of rain and snow, especially in northern areas.

Sunday 25/11/18
High pressure stays to the north of Britain, whilst low pressure is to the south. A cool, dull and damp easterly pattern continues. Some persistent rain may develop around English Channel coasts. A few showers in eastern districts, locally frequent near North Sea coasts. Central and western areas mainly dry, with sunshine best toward western Scotland and north-west England. A few showers may affect eastern Ireland. Feeling cool in the breeze, highs 5 to 9C.

Monday 26/11/18
Little overall change to the weather pattern. An easterly flow continues, with a few areas of light showers around eastern coasts, spreading inland, giving a dull and damp day in central-eastern England. A risk of showery rain too across southern England as low pressure resides around the English Channel. A little sun in the west. A cool easterly breeze. Frost in sheltered spots in the morning. Highs 5 to 9C.

Tuesday 27/11/18
High pressure is likely to stay to the north-east, whilst frontal systems try to move in from the south-west. Generally cloudy and dull, some fog. Patchy rain around east and southern coasts. Later more organised rain may move into southern Ireland and south-western Britain. Southeasterly winds strengthening. Highs 4 to 9C.

Wednesday 28/11/18
Timing uncertain. Fronts moving in from the south-west bring a risk of some rain, focused on western areas, possibly hill snow over northern hills. Mostly cloudy, probably dull in eastern areas. Temperatures becoming milder from the south-west, highs ranging from 4 to 7C north & east, to perhaps locally 12C south-west.

Thursday 29/11/18
Areas of rain passing eastwards, heavy and persistent in places. Least rain toward the south-east. Northern areas may stay chilly, with snow on hills. Mostly cloudy. Breezy, perhaps windy, but milder than previous days. Highs 7 to 12C.

Friday 30/11/18
Confidence is low. Likely unsettled, with some areas of rain, or hill snow in north. Temperatures uncertain - it may stay mild in the south, but there is a risk of colder air returning or holding on northern areas. Highs 5 to 11C.
