Wet in west
A mild week

Issued: 1000hrs Saturday 3rd November 2018
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Southerly winds dominate early November

The south-facing hills of western Britain will receive frequent heavy rain during the week ahead with a risk of localised flooding. Cornwall and Devon, south Wales, the southern Lake District plus Dumfries & Galloway will be the wettest areas. Smaller amounts of rain for central and eastern England. It will be a generally mild week ahead, with temperaturs often in double figures, and frost unlikely.

Tuesday 06/11/18
Low pressure will be to the west over the Atlantic, whilst high pressure resides over eastern Europe. A strengthening south to southeasterly breeze, reaching gale force around south-western coasts. Pulses of rain spreading northeastwards across Britain, although much of central-eastern England will stay dry. Heavy rain is likely to move into the south-west of England & Wales, also southern Ireland. Generally mild and avoiding frost overnight, highs 10 to 14C.

Wednesday 07/11/18
An ongoing southerly airflow, and fronts pushing in from the Atlantic. Areas of rain will push erratically northeastwards across Britain. Some persistent rain possible in the west, heaviest over south-facing hills, particularly south-west England and south Wales. Eastern England should again stay mainly dry. Some rain likely advancing into the Midlands. Breezy, but quite mild, highs 9 to 13C.

Thursday 08/11/18
A south to southwesterly flow continues. A complex series of fronts moving northeastwards. Rain at times, spreading to many areas, heaviest and most prolonged in the west. Perhaps a brief clearance, but further rain is likely to come into Ireland and southwestern Britain. Brightest in the east and north-east. Fairly mild and breezy, 10 to 13C.

Friday 09/11/18
An ongoing mixed but mild outlook. Southwesterly winds continue, with rain or showers, wettest in the west. Least rain toward south-east England. Breezy. Highs 9 to 13C.

Saturday 10/11/18
A familiar mild or very mild south to southwesterly pattern is expected. Some rain mainly in the west, possibly heavy and prolonged, whilst eastern areas are drier. Highs 10 to 14C.

Sunday 11/11/18
Little overall change, with rain focused on Ireland and western Britain. Smaller amounts of rain reaching the east and north-east. Very mild. Highs 10 to 15C.
