Issued: 1000hrs Sunday 29th July 2018
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Fresh north-west, warm south-east

A mixed week ahead, with some rain or showers, most frequent in the north and west. Generally fresher than recent times, although the south-east will be fairly warm, with some hot days redeveloping here, reaching 30C later in the week. It looks like becoming dry toward the weekend, but it may not fully settle back into a long dry spell.

Wednesday 01/08/18
A south to southwesterly pattern influences the British Isles, with high pressure toward the south-east. Variable cloud with occasional showery rain in the west and north. More organised rain may move into Ireland from the west through the day, where winds will strengthen. Generally dry and bright toward the south and east of Britain. Breezy for north & western areas, lighter winds and sea breezes in the south & east. Highs 17 to 26C, warmest south-east.

Thursday 02/08/18
A southwesterly pattern continues, with a few clusters of showers or locally some organised rain for Scotland and perhaps north-west England & Wales as fronts move in from the west. Central and south-eastern Britain should be dry all day. Breezy for the north & west, lighter winds south-east. Warming up, 24 to 28C south, but fresh in Scotland & Northern Ireland, 17 to 21C.

Friday 03/08/18
High pressure builds from the south, but weakening fronts will still influence Britain, especially northern areas. Plenty of dry weather, best sunshine toward the south-east, but some brighter spells elsewhere. A scattering of showers for northern regions, but better than previous days for most. A fairly light westerly breeze. Highs 19 to 26C, perhaps 30C far south-east.

Saturday 04/08/18
High pressure should reside across Britain & Ireland. Generally dry with good amounts of sun, but some variable cloud. Localised showers possible. Warmest temperatures in the south. Highs 19 to 26C, or warmer southern England.

Sunday 05/08/18
Plenty of fair weather overall, with warm sunshine. Risk of fronts encroaching into the north-west to bring some cloud and patchy rain. Isolated showers may develop elsewhere. Highs 19 to 26C, locally warmer in the south.

Monday 06/08/18
Fairly high pressure stays in charge, but weak fronts may influence the north-west producing cloud and some rain. Chance of isolated showers in central Britain. Many places generally dry. Highs 19 to 26C, locally warmer.
